This place was horrible. They started blasting music from speakers directly next to animal's cages containing anxious and sad looking monkeys. They're hosting some Halloween fright fest which I'm sure is really great for the welfare of these animals. The place was covered with black tarps that they were using for their haunted house and was told that, no, it's not for kids it's too scary. Great! I can just imagine. This is the kind of place actual habitats rescue animals FROM. It's a roadside attraction at best and should be shutdown. Oh, did I mention the animals have NO WATER? And you have to throw the food at their cages which are pitifully small?
Interesting place lots of primates to see and turtles some birds and even got to hold a small gator and feed a small money. People who run it are friendly and informative. Chimps got in an argument while we were there and the lady explained a bit about why they were having a disagreement and asked us to not look at them to let them calm down. Definitely need more funding and volunteers. Definitely worth a stop if you are in the area.
Go visit and keep open mind and you will see what I see. It takes a lot to run that place and they do a great job!
How is this a sanctuary?! These apes should have come to you to heal and live out their lives in a natural setting. Concrete is not found in the wild. Loud, blaring music is not found in the wild. Shame on you. These poor animals deserve better. I hope you get shut down.
The Primate Sanctaury has been there for so long. They are about the well being and longevity of the animals.
We were very grateful for the chance to see the volunteers feeding and caring for these rescued primates, birds, turtles and gators that wouldn't have made it without their help. Remember this is a rescue, not an amusement park...they are all volunteers, the food and supplies are mostly donated and they are working with what they have. Those who are not happy with the concrete should open up their wallets instead of their mouths. My family and I learned a lot and hope to spread the word and help out lo g after we return home. Bless you all.
I think they do so much with so little there! They all are Volunteers. Which means they have a passion and love for animals. It is not a private for profit zoo that is commercialized and is wealthy. These people aren't getting paid. They give their own time to care for the animals and they genuinely love them.
They have people just drop animals off they don't want anymore. They don't turn them away, they take excellent care of them and it's a clean facility and a great place to take the family and picnic! Just because a place is older doesn't make it dirty. It is very clean there and again it is NOT a privately funded zoo!!! It literally is a sanctuary!
